Bengaluru, June 18 : Ahead of Prime Day, Amazon introduces a new fulfillment format designed to serve broader customer needs. Amazon today announced the roll out of more than 100 specialised Urban Fulfillment Centers, marking a significant expansion that will offer four times more selection over thousands of essentials already available on Amazon Now. These Centers will offer customers access to apparel, electronics, jewellery, shoes, luggage, watches, wireless, musical instruments, furniture and more, apart from groceries (including fruits & vegetables and frozen food), personal care, fashion & beauty products, small appliances, baby products, pet supplies and healthcare supplements, all delivered in minutes.
Amazon doubles down on expansion of ‘Amazon Now’, plans to launch over 100 Urban Fulfillment Centers offering 4X more selection delivered in minutes.
The launch of Urban Fulfillment Centers builds on Amazon Now's previously announced expansion to 100 cities with more than 1,000 Micro-Fulfillment centers, adding a new layer of infrastructure designed to significantly expand selection while maintaining fast delivery speeds. These Centers will progressively launch in cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
"Customers appreciate the speed, convenience and selection available on Amazon.in. As we continue to scale Amazon Now, we remain focused on offering customers a wider selection, value and faster delivery speeds across categories. This is made possible by our long-term investments in technology, infrastructure, and people over the past 13 years, which have helped us build one of India’s safest, fastest and most reliable networks, powered by advanced technology, AI-driven inventory planning, demand forecasting and a highly optimized operations infrastructure. With the launch of Urban Fulfillment Centers, we are bringing inventory closer to customers, enabling faster deliveries across a wide selection offered by our sellers, so customers continue to get the convenience and value on Amazon Now,’’ said Abhinav Singh, Vice President - Operations, Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye.
Urban Fulfillment Centers are larger-format facilities that augment the micro-fulfillment center network and bring 4X the assortment to customer homes in minutes. This rapid expansion is a part of Amazon’s investment of over INR 2,800 crore (~USD 300 million) to further strengthen associate safety, health and financial wellbeing measures while strengthening its operations network. As part of these efforts, Amazon has also established Ashray centers, dedicated rest points for all delivery associates, regardless of the company they work for, at high-footfall locations, offering amenities such as air-conditioned seating, drinking water, washrooms, charging stations and first-aid kits. Amazon recently announced plans to expand the Ashray network from 100 to 250 centers in 2026.
