New Delhi: Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Tuesday criticised the government's decision to transfer the CBSE Chairman and Secretary, calling the move a "mere eye wash" and alleging that it was aimed at protecting Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Reacting to the administrative shake-up in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Shrinate said that accountability should be fixed at the highest level and questioned why action was not being taken against the Education Minister.
"The responsibility lies at the doorstep of the government and at the doorstep of the Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan. Unless he resigns or is removed, there is no hope for justice," she said.
Meanwhile, Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha (Lower house), Rahul Gandhi in an X post wrote, "Our demand remains the same today: Dismiss the Education Minister and conduct an independent judicial inquiry—these aren’t some one-month-old internal file of the Modi government to be brushed aside just like that."
The Congress leader claimed that CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh had received a two-year extension from the Cabinet Committee on Appointments in November 2025, and alleged that transferring a bureaucrat instead of addressing the larger issue was an attempt to shift responsibility.
"To sacrifice a babu or a bureaucrat to save the minister is nothing but a mere eye wash," Shrinate said.
The government has also ordered a probe into the procurement process of On-Screen Marking (OSM) services, with an inquiry committee constituted to examine alleged irregularities in the system.
Shrinate said the move indicated that the government was acknowledging concerns related to the OSM process. She referred to complaints raised by students and young individuals, alleging irregularities and corruption in the system.
"It does seem that the government admits that the OSM is saddled with irregularities," she said.
The Congress leader also highlighted that student representatives, including Sarthak, Nisarg and Vedant, had raised concerns about the issue.

She said it was important that young voices were heard and mentioned Sarthak's appearance before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education after being invited by committee chairman and Congress MP Digvijaya Singh.
"Congress strongly believes that it is Gen Z, which is not just the future but the present. They need to be heard, their concerns need to be addressed and more importantly, they need to be empowered at every platform," the congress leader stated.
The CBSE leadership changes and the inquiry into OSM procurement come amid growing demands for transparency in examination-related processes.
