New Delhi [India]: S Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Thursday said that the government is actively collaborating with industry bodies to reorient and upskill the workforce for an AI-driven world.
This synergy will enable India to leverage its demographic strengths and solidify its position as the AI solution capital of the world, he said speaking at second edition of the CII GCC Business Summit held today.
He added that AI adoption must significantly enhance productivity across core sectors, including manufacturing and financial services, while delivering localized, scalable solutions.
Underscoring India’s emergence as a global hub for innovation and enterprise operations, Krishan highlighted the government’s sustained efforts to create a robust and future-ready ecosystem for Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

He emphasized that with key policy reforms largely in place, the focus must now shift towards measuring their real-world impact while leveraging artificial intelligence to move GCCs up the value chain and position India as a global leader in high-value business operations.
He said India has the distinct potential to become the 'office space of the world'— managing not just back-offices, but front-end global operations.
"This is an extraordinary opportunity we cannot afford to miss, and AI will be the ultimate catalyst in this endeavour," he said.
Speaking on the growing significance of artificial intelligence, Krishnan emphasized that AI must be deployed meaningfully across Global Capability Centres (GCCs) by leveraging India's core strengths in human capital and cost competitiveness.
He noted that it is vital for enterprises to adopt AI in a manner that effectively utilizes the nation's inherent talent advantages and cost-efficiencies to drive sustainable value.
Highlighting the evolution of the workforce, Krishnan stated that AI should be adapted to shift operations toward higher-order functions across various segments. AI provides a historic opportunity to transition from low-order execution to high-value strategic functions.

However, any institution will always require a human interface to roll out and govern these functions, and this is precisely the leadership role that Indian GCCs must play, he noted.
