New Delhi (India), June 7: China conducted a "law enforcement operation" in waters east of Taiwan following recent discussions between Japan and the Philippines on drawing a maritime boundary in the area.

Beijing called the planned talks illegal and reiterated its claim over the disputed waters amid ongoing tensions with Japan in the East China Sea.

Tokyo and Manila announced last month that they would begin formal talks "to delimit the maritime boundary" of an economic zone and continental shelf between the two countries, a move that drew objections from Beijing.

China, which regards Taiwan as part of its territory, described the talks as "illegal" and asserted exclusive control over the waters in question.
