Manila: India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting, with the two leaders reviewing progress across key pillars of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar said in a post on X that discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in trade and tariffs, energy, defence and security, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence.
The leaders also reviewed ongoing collaboration in areas aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The bilateral meeting took place alongside the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which is being held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila. The gathering assumes significance amid growing strategic and security challenges in the Indo-Pacific, including tensions in the South China Sea and wider regional geopolitical developments.

According to official readouts, the India-US discussions also covered cooperation in critical minerals, semiconductors, resilient supply chains, and energy security. The talks built on commitments made during the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in New Delhi in May, where member countries announced a series of initiatives to strengthen regional cooperation.
The Manila meeting marks the second Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting this year and underscores the group's continued focus on promoting a free, open, and resilient Indo-Pacific while enhancing coordination with Southeast Asian partners.
The bilateral engagement between Jaishankar and Rubio also reviewed progress in defence cooperation, trade, tariffs, emerging technologies, and other strategic sectors, reflecting the growing breadth of the India-US partnership.

The Quad, comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, continues to play an increasingly important role in addressing regional security challenges, strengthening economic resilience, and advancing cooperation in critical and emerging technologies across the Indo-Pacific.
