New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday conferred the country’s second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, posthumously on Dharmendra in recognition of his immense contribution to the field of arts and Indian cinema.
Veteran actor and BJP MP Hema Malini received the Padma Vibhushan on behalf of her late husband and legendary actor Dharmendra at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Hema Malini accepted the honour on behalf of the iconic actor, who was celebrated for a career spanning several decades and numerous blockbuster films.

Dharmendra, fondly known as the “He-Man” of Bollywood, was one of the most influential actors of Indian cinema and remained a beloved figure across generations. He passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89.
One of the most versatile and successful actors in the history of Hindi cinema, he left an indelible mark on Indian cinema through a career spanning over 300 films.
The legendary actor was one of those few actors who brought every character he touched to life, and through his art, he won the hearts of millions of viewers across all age groups.

His contribution to Hindi cinema included memorable performances in classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam and Phool Aur Patthar.
