New York (USA), June 6: India has strongly rejected Pakistan's remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), asserting that the Union Territory was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.
Speaking during the UNGA Plenary on the Annual Report of the Security Council, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, criticised Pakistan for raising what he described as an internal matter of India on an international platform.
Responding to Pakistan's references to Jammu and Kashmir, Harish said Islamabad continued to misuse UN forums to advance its divisive political agenda and spread biased and false narratives.
He reminded Pakistan that membership of the UN Security Council carries significant responsibility and should not be used for promoting misleading claims.
"Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. Any assertions to the contrary are baseless and inconsistent with historical facts," Harish said.
India reiterated its longstanding position that issues related to Jammu and Kashmir are internal matters and rejected Pakistan's comments at the UN forum.
On May 27, he sent a tough message to the Pakistan. He had said, “Pakistan will have to accept that there are consequences to its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.”
The Indian envoy accused Pakistan of consistently promoting terrorism, religious extremism, violent radicalism and anti-India rhetoric since its creation. He said the evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in such activities is already available in the public domain and requires no further explanation.
“Pakistan's harnessing of the malevolent forces of terrorism, religious extremism, violent radicalism, and anti-India rhetoric has continued unabated since its creation,” Harish said.
Calling for decisive action, the Indian representative urged Pakistan to end all forms of support to terrorism in a “credible and irreversible” manner.
