New Delhi [India], June 21 : The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2026 re-test is underway today, June 21, with lakhs of medical aspirants returning to examination halls across the country. The re-examination is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) after concerns surrounding the earlier exam process.
More than 22 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the re-test, making it one of the largest examination exercises in the country. The exam is being held at 5,400+ centres across India, with authorities focusing on transparency, security and smooth conduct.
Why is NEET UG 2026 re-test being conducted?
The re-test comes after the May 3 NEET UG examination faced controversy, leading authorities to conduct a fresh examination process for affected candidates.
The government and NTA said the decision was taken to protect the interests of students and ensure fairness in the admission process for undergraduate medical courses.
NTA’s major arrangements for today’s exam
To prevent disruptions and maintain exam integrity, NTA has put several measures in place:

The NEET UG re-test is being conducted in the traditional pen-and-paper format. The examination is scheduled from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed preparations ahead of the re-test and stressed the need for a fair and transparent examination process. Officials from the Education Ministry, NTA and state administrations were involved in monitoring arrangements.
