New Delhi: The Union Government has extended the tenure of Dr TV Somanathan as the Cabinet Secretary by one year.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the one-year extension in the service of Dr. T.V. Somanathan, as Cabinet Secretary beyond 30 August 2026.
The ACC has also approved the tenure extension of Govind Mohan as the Home Secretary by one year.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension in service of Dr. T.V. Somanathan, IAS (TN:87) as Cabinet Secretary for a further period of one year beyond 30.08.2026," a Ministry of Personnel order mentions.
T. V. Somanathan assumed office as the Cabinet Secretary of India on August 30, 2024, succeeding Rajiv Gauba after his retirement. Before this appointment, he served as Finance Secretary and Secretary, Department of Expenditure.

A PhD in Economics from Calcutta University and a qualified Chartered Accountant, Cost Accountant, and Company Secretary, Somanathan has held several key positions in the Government of India, the Government of Tamil Nadu, and the World Bank.
He has also authored over 80 publications on economics, finance, and public policy.
