Delhi Police register 10 FIRs after violence during protest march

New Delhi: Delhi Police has intensified its crackdown following the recent protests in the national capital, registering a total of 10 FIRs over incidents of violence and alleged law and order violations across Delhi-NCR.

The action comes after clashes erupted during a protest march towards Parliament on Monday.

According to police, multiple incidents of violence were reported involving protesters, Delhi Police personnel, and members of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) deployed to maintain order.

The protesters have been pressing three key demands since the demonstrations began: the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, compensation for those affected, and permission for activist Sonam Wangchuk to rejoin the protest.

The protest gained momentum after education reformer Sonam Wangchuk was taken into custody on Saturday. His detention prompted demonstrators to call for a march to Parliament on Monday. It was during this march that violence broke out, leading to injuries and disruptions.

Taking cognisance of the incidents, Delhi Police has launched a broad investigation. Officials said video footage of the clashes, including visuals showing police and paramilitary personnel allegedly being assaulted, has been collected.

Investigators are now working to identify individuals who allegedly led the violent groups and participated in attacks on security personnel.

Security has also been significantly tightened at the protest site. Multiple layers of barricades have been erected before the main demonstration area, with at least three security barricades leading up to the final protest zone.

Additional police personnel have been deployed to prevent any further escalation and maintain law and order.

Authorities said the investigation into the violence is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken based on evidence gathered during the probe.

Meanwhile, the developments come as Parliament continues its Monsoon Session, with security remaining on high alert in the national capital amid concerns over further protests.
