"Everybody's profiting" Trump defends financial disclosures

New Delhi [India]: US President Donald Trump addressed a range of issues during remarks to reporters, including his personal finances, energy prices, government savings initiatives, birthright citizenship, and foreign policy.

Responding to questions about his latest financial disclosures, Trump said he has no direct involvement in managing his personal investments, stating that his assets are handled by independent fund managers.

He added that gains in his portfolio reflect the broader rise in the stock market, saying, "Everybody's profiting."

On energy prices, Trump said he expects gasoline prices to continue falling and highlighted planned fuel price cuts at select stations in the Philadelphia region ahead of America's 250th Independence Day celebrations. He also encouraged other retailers to lower prices.

Trump announced that semiconductor company Micron will invest $250 million into the newly launched "Trump Accounts" program, a government-backed savings initiative for American children under the age of 18. The accounts are scheduled to be officially launched on July 4.

The president also reiterated his position on birthright citizenship, arguing that the constitutional provision was originally intended to protect the children of former slaves rather than the children of foreign nationals. He said his administration is focused on a merit-based approach to immigration.

On foreign policy, Trump criticized Spain for not meeting NATO's defense spending targets and also commented on relations with Cuba during his remarks.
