New Delhi (India), June 16: Ahead of the re-examination of the National Entrance Cum Eligibility Test (NEET) UG 2026 which is scheduled for 21st June, the government has restricted online messaging and social media app telegram till 22nd of this month.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has welcomed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MEITY) directions for restricting Telegram access in India for a defined and limited period.

In a statement, NTA said that the restriction will cover the day of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination and its immediate aftermath.

The agency added that the platform has also been directed to disable the message-editing feature for already-posted messages until 30th of this month.

According to the Agency, this step will address a feature that has allegedly been misused to fabricate post-facto claims of question paper leaks in national examinations.

The NTA said both measures have been taken in the interest of public order and in response to the organised use of the platform by cheating rackets to defraud candidates appearing for the re-examination.

NTA has expressed gratitude to the MEITY for the timely action and said the measures will help ensure the safe and secure conduct of the examination in the interest of students.

Earlier in the month, NTA dismissed claims circulating on social media about the alleged leak or sale of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination question paper and warned of strict action against those spreading such content.

The NEET-UG retest is scheduled for June 21. The NTA said it was actively identifying and reporting the offending channels, accounts and content to the platforms and cybercrime authorities for immediate takedown and action.

The agency said it is reporting offending accounts, filing complaints with authorities, and warned of strict action against those spreading such content.

The NEET-UG exams are the entry gate for students who want to become doctors and other medical professionals. The exams this year remained in controversy because of the alleged mismanagement and paper leaks.
