New Delhi: Meta which owns social media Facebook and Instagram has informed the Indian government that the company has implemented new protocols for accounts of prominent persons referring to deletion of PM Narendra Modi's video.
For context, the social media giant Facebook had removed Modi's post in which he addressed the youth during the CJP student protest.
After the incident Modi-Government summoned Meta on July 28 to register a formal disagreement about the act.
Meta has formally issued an apology later in which it said, "The content was removed in error and has since been restored."
Speaking to media in New Delhi today on Meta's explanation, S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, said, "...Meta has expressed regret to the government over the incident, explained the reasons behind it, and informed us that, from July 28, it has implemented new protocols for accounts of prominent persons to prevent such incidents from recurring...".

Krishnan further added that Meta will appear before the Centre to explain policy and technical issues concerning the company.
Going further, he said, "We have asked Meta to come in at the highest level and explain what is happening and why the kind of issues that we see. They have agreed to come; they will be coming and explaining what the situation is.
"We want to have both a policy-level understanding and a technical understanding of the issues, and also an adaptation to the kind of concerns that India has in this regard."

He added, "Meta has written to the government expressing regret over the incident and that it had happened. They've also given us the reasons why it happened, and they've also indicated that as of 28th of July, they have established new protocols relating to accounts of prominent persons to avoid such a situation from recurring."
