Ashwini Vaishnaw says AI Data Centres are the next growth engine under Make in India as electronics manufacturing expands globally

India’s electronics manufacturing landscape received a major boost as Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, inaugurated Jabil Inc.’s advanced manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon, Pune, on 17 June 2026.

The facility marks a significant step towards building an export-focused electronics ecosystem, with capabilities spanning AI-enabled data centre systems, 5G infrastructure, high-end networking equipment, industrial power electronics, and consumer electronics.

Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence infrastructure and stated that AI data centres have emerged as one of the world’s biggest growth drivers.

He emphasized that manufacturing critical electronic components for AI data centres within India is a key priority under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Make in India vision. The new Jabil facility in Pune will produce advanced technology components for both domestic requirements and international export markets.

The Minister said India’s electronics manufacturing sector has transformed into a major pillar of the economy, reaching a value of ₹13 lakh crore. Electronics have also become the country’s third-largest export category, reflecting the rapid progress of domestic manufacturing capabilities.

Jabil’s new facility is designed as a modern, high-tech manufacturing hub with a focus on global standards, supply chain localization, and integration of Indian MSMEs into the technology ecosystem.

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for nearly 11,000 people while strengthening India’s position as a trusted global electronics manufacturing destination.

The Union Minister further stressed the importance of talent development, skill creation, and specialized manufacturing capabilities to help India move towards becoming one of the world’s leading electronics export hubs.
