New Delhi: Education reformer and environmentalist, Sonam Wangchuk has ended his hunger strike at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in presence of Union Minister JP Nadda and MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh.
He was on hunger strike from June 28 in support of CJP protest which is taking place at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi.
In a post on X Wangchuk justified end of his hunger strike adding that this has been the outcome of long negotiation with the government.
The post added, "Just now in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda & Dr. Jitendra Singh and the senior leaders of Apex Body of Leh Ladakh I finally broke my fast after 26 days. Earlier 65 in members of parliament from different political parties had visited or signed letters urging me to break the fast."
"This was done after a long negotiation on various conditions and in view of possible violence in the country. I will explain the conditions in detail in a separate video very soon. Meanwhile urge you all to stay very vigilant about not allowing violence of any kind anywhere," Wangchuk's X said.
It is worth noting that the Modi government has not given assurance to the CJP protesters or Wangchuk to remove Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan which has been non-negotiable demand of the protesters.
After the end of his hunger strike, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, ""I urge Sonam ji to follow his routine as per the doctors' advice and regain his old weight as soon as possible. I pray to the Lord that Sonam ji remains healthy."
CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das told reporters that a discussion has been called for and welcomed the government's decision to hold it at a neutral venue.
"Tomorrow, a discussion has been called for, we are very happy that the government has agreed to our request that it be at a neutral venue. The Constitution Club of India has been chosen," Das said.
Earlier, PM announced that the centre will set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks and asserting that protecting students’ futures remains the government’s top priority.

In a social media post, Modi said that nothing is more important than the welfare and future of youth of the country.
Modi’s statement comes amid ongoing student protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over NEET paper leak case.
Modi said he has directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard. He asserted that those who try to harm the future of the youth will not be spared.
