Developments in India's first chip fab: Tata Electronics which is developing India's first 300 mm commercial Fab has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ASML, one of the world’s leading semiconductor equipment manufacturing companies based in Netherlands.

Through this partnership, ASML will enable the establishment and successful ramp of Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300 mm (12 inch) semiconductor Fab in Dholera, Gujarat.

Tata Electronics said after signing the MoU that the move is an important step in the context of the intensifying strategic collaboration between India and The Netherlands in the field of semiconductor technology.

The development took place on May 16 during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Netherlands.

The collaboration between Tata Electronics and ASML will focus on deploying ASML’s holistic suite of advanced lithography tools and solutions for the Dholera Fab.

Advanced lithography tools are high-precision manufacturing systems used to "print" microscopic circuit patterns onto silicon wafers.

The use of ASML’s industry-leading technologies is expected to ensure seamless operations at India’s first commercial 300 mm semiconductor Fab, delivering value to Tata Electronics’ customers.

The two companies will cooperate to develop domestic talent, supply chain, and research initiatives to support the long-term success of Tata Electronics’ Dholera Fab.

With a planned total investment of USD 11 billion, Tata’s facility will manufacture semiconductors for a variety of applications across automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other key segments, to serve customers globally.

Tata Electronics has strategically partnered with key global customers and ecosystem companies, starting with PSMC (Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, Taiwan), thereby gaining access to a broad technology portfolio including 28nm, 40nm, 55nm, 90nm, and 110nm. According to the Tata Electronics, the construction of the plant is progressing rapidly.

The company said that the partnership with ASML is strategic in the journey of Tata Electronics to develop partnerships across the entire semiconductor ecosystem, encompassing equipment, process and design technology, and materials.

 Ends.
