India sends $140 million worth goods to UK on 1st day of CETA

The trade pact is expected to gove boost to the Indian exports, by providing zero-duty access to the UK market.

New Delhi (India): India exported goods worth 140 miilion dollar to United Kingdom (UK) on the first day of operationalisation of Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between two countries.

The trade pact is expected to gove boost to the Indian exports, by providing zero-duty access to the UK market.

Now Indian exporters can export a wide range of products, including textiles, footwear, gems and jewellery, engineering goods, and processed food.

Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Secretary, Commerce and Industry Ministry Rajesh Agarwal said that this agreement is completely aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047.

He said, this is one of the most aspirational and biggest trade agreements, which will open up opportunities in market access on both sides. The secretary said that this will not only give a boost to the country’s merchandise trade but also give a boost to services in coming days.

Talking to Akashvani News, High Commissioner of UK to India, Lindy Cameron, said that this agreement is a great deal for both sides. Chairman of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) Dr A Sakthivel said that due to this agreement, exports will be doubled in one and a half years.

Tarun Bajaj of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority said this agreement will be beneficial for the agricultural and processing sector. Executive Director of Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council Sabyasachi Ray said that the Gems and Jewellery sector will immensely benefit from this agreement.
