New Delhi [India], June 25 : The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kolkata.
As in the roof collapse incident at an under-construction warehouse in Kolkata’s Taratala five innocent lost their lives and around 20 people are left injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday when the roof structure suddenly gave way, trapping several workers under the debris.
Following the tragedy, rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, Fire Services, Civil Defence and local authorities were deployed for a massive search and rescue operation. The teams continued operations through the night amid concerns that more people could still be trapped.
The injured workers are undergoing treatment at the state-run SSKM Hospital.
Although, following the mishappening Shri Narendra Modi assured that the state government is working round the clock to ensure that those affected receive all possible assistance.
The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured.

The mishap in Kolkata yesterday is saddening. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each will be given from PMNRF to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the mishap. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000. The state government is working round the clock to ensure that those affected receive all possible assistance: PM @narendramodi
However, The West Bengal government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cause of the collapse and determine responsibility. So far, two people have been arrested in connection with the incident as per the sources.
While, preliminary findings by the local response authorities suggest that the under-construction structure may not have had the required approvals.
The state government has ordered a detailed safety audit of buildings and ongoing construction projects across West Bengal. All under-construction commercial projects will remain suspended until August 1, pending safety inspections.
Thus, the incident has renewed concerns over building safety standards and regulatory enforcement in rapidly developing urban areas.
