In addition, the arrival of the Vande Bharat Express in Kashmir marks the completion of a decades-old dream of seamlessly linking the Valley with the rest of India through rail connectivity.
At Srinagar railway station, locals, students, workers, tourists and families gathered with excitement as the train arrived, symbolising a new era of faster and safer travel for the region.
The Vande Bharat Express now connects Srinagar directly with Jammu, reducing travel time to nearly four hours. Earlier, commuters had to depend on the often unpredictable National Highway-44, where landslides, snowfall, rain and traffic jams frequently disrupted movement.
Passengers say the new rail service has brought major relief by making travel more convenient, reliable and comfortable.
Residents also believe the improved connectivity will strengthen tourism and provide a boost to the local economy. People associated with the tourism sector, including hotel owners, transport operators and traders, are expected to benefit from the increased movement of visitors.

The development follows the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which closed the remaining gaps in Kashmir’s rail network.
Officials say the extension of the Vande Bharat Express to the Valley has already led to a rise in passenger traffic and is being seen as a major step in the region’s rail transformation and overall development.
