Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak flays assault of minor in Dimapur

Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, the MP stated that such heinous and inhuman acts have no place in a civilized society and must be collectively denounced by every responsible citizen.

New Delhi: Nagaland’s Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak has expressed deep alarm and concern over the reported sexual assault of a minor in Dimapur.

Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, the MP stated that such heinous and inhuman acts have no place in a civilized society and must be collectively denounced by every responsible citizen.


"I am deeply alarmed and disturbed to learn about the reported sexual assault of a minor in Dimapur. Such a heinous and inhuman act deserves the strongest condemnation from every right-thinking citizen," she added in an X post on May 28.

Phangnon further informed that she has spoken to the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, and was apprised that the police have taken proactive cognisance of the matter and that progress is being made in the investigation.

"I have spoken to the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, and have been informed that the police are taking proactive cognisance of the matter and that progress is being made in the investigation," she said.

Emphasizing the importance of protecting the survivor, she stated that the identity, dignity and rights of the minor must be safeguarded at all costs.

The MP also asserted that crimes against children can never be tolerated under any circumstances and called upon society to stand united in ensuring the safety, protection, and dignity of every child.

"The identity and dignity of the minor survivor must be safeguarded at all costs. Crimes against children can never be tolerated in any civilized society. It is our collective responsibility to stand firmly against such acts and to ensure the safety, protection, and dignity of every child," she added.

The Eastern Mirror on Friday reported that the accused in sexual assault of a minor girl in Lengrijan, Watimeren aka O Wati, has been arrested after the District Court in Dimapur refused to grant him anticipatory bail.
