New York, USA: India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, on Wednesday, said that the UN Security Council must be a living instrument, not a fossil, and called for genuine multilateral cooperation

Speaking in a UN session, India’s Permanent Representative said, "A critical challenge the UN faces today is one of double standards."

"These are characterized not only by inconsistent application of principles in different situations, but also by inconsistency between words and actions. Brute force and power do not deliver stronger multilateralism of global public good. The spirit of cooperation and ability to make compromises for greater global good must be demonstrated and acted upon," he added.

Speaking at the United Nations in response to the allegations byPakistan, Harish said India has every right to defend itself against terrorism emanating from across the border.

“Pakistan will have to accept that there are consequences to its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism,” he stated.

The Indian envoy accused Pakistan of consistently promoting terrorism, religious extremism, violent radicalism and anti-India rhetoric since its creation. He said the evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in such activities is already available in the public domain and requires no further explanation.

“Pakistan's harnessing of the malevolent forces of terrorism, religious extremism, violent radicalism, and anti-India rhetoric has continued unabated since its creation,” Harish said.

“Pakistan must credibly and irrevocably end its support for all forms of terrorism,” he added.
