New Delhi [India]: A major breakthrough has reportedly emerged in the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, with officials indicating that both sides have agreed to temporarily halt attacks and ensure the safe movement of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
The development comes after a sharp escalation over the past 24 hours, during which the United States allegedly carried out strikes on Iranian targets, while Iran responded with attacks on American military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait.
According to a U.S. official, both countries have now agreed to pause military actions, allowing technical discussions to continue on the next phase of negotiations.
Media reports suggest that a new round of talks could take place in Doha, Qatar, in the coming days, although no official confirmation has been issued.

The latest tensions reportedly began after a commercial vessel moving through the Strait of Hormuz was fired upon.
Iranian authorities allegedly argued that the movement of ships in the region must comply with earlier understandings and be coordinated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Washington, however, viewed the incident as a violation of existing arrangements and responded with military action.
Despite the recent exchange of attacks, both sides now appear to recognize the importance of maintaining stability in the strategic waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical energy corridors, with a significant portion of global oil shipments passing through it every day. Countries including India depend heavily on uninterrupted maritime traffic in the region for their energy security.
Analysts believe that restoring confidence over shipping routes could serve as the first step toward addressing more complex issues, including Iran's nuclear programme, sanctions, frozen assets, and missile capabilities.
Qatar is expected to continue playing a mediating role if further negotiations move ahead. Officials from both nations have indicated that while military operations have been paused for now, broader diplomatic discussions will be necessary to achieve a lasting resolution to the dispute.
The situation remains fluid, and observers around the world are closely watching whether the current pause in hostilities can pave the way for a more comprehensive agreement between Washington and Tehran.
