New Delhi [India], June 30 : Several Congress leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai, Members of Parliament, and senior party leaders were reportedly placed under house arrest by the Uttar Pradesh Police while they were on their way to Ayodhya.
The leaders were planning to visit the Ram Mandir to offer prayers, but police action prevented them from continuing their journey.
The Congress has criticised the move, calling it an attempt to stop their peaceful visit. The authorities have not yet released a detailed public statement explaining the restrictions placed on the leaders.
Ajay Rai Reacts in Video Message
In a video released after being placed under house arrest, UP Congress chief Ajay Rai said that the leaders wanted to seek darshan of Lord Shri Ram but were stopped by the government. Ajay Rai said,
“Today, we all wanted to seek the darshan of Lord Shri Ram, but the BJP government has arrested us and locked us inside the guest house of the Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology.”
He alleged that all Congress leaders accompanying him were confined and said they wanted to pray that Lord Ram gives wisdom to those who, according to him, came to power using his name.
Congress Raises Demands Over Donation Case
Rai said referring to the alleged Ram Mandir donation fund controversy, that strict action should be taken and demanded that those already arrested should be questioned properly.
He also said that the police should secure remand and interrogate the lower-level employees who have been sent to jail. He also demanded registration of FIRs against senior individuals whom he accused of being linked to the alleged irregularities.
Rai named several people, including Nripendra Misra, Anil Mishra, Gopal Rai, Champat Rai, Bansal, and Govind Dev Giri, and demanded investigation and strict action against those accused.
